This day was like any other. The underwater world was silent and peaceful as always, and the dim daylight hardly found its way into the depths of the ocean, to the mermaids' Kingdom of Atlantis. How could anyone expect that the ancient world, soaked in wisdom; the world that remained unchanged through centuries, can collapse in the blink of an eye? That all the pieces put together carefully and taken care of by many generations will crumble down so easily?

She was like a ghost walking by the shore, watching her whole world falling apart. The ocean was furious, the waves crashing by the rocks. Everything she ever knew and loved was falling into nothingness. Holding tight the statue's fragment, the only thing that was left of her home, she was thinking not only about all that she has lost, but also of what was awaiting her. For one last time, she laid down on the cool sand, listening to the waves; they were announcing changes.
The world became silent and peaceful again, the beach was empty. Walking away, she smiled to herself; it was going to be the first day of the rest of her life. ***
